The South Beach Diet is an eating plan that consists of three phases and that aims to assist dieters with the process of losing weight. This diet program focuses on minimizing carbohydrates and focusing more on protein-rich lean meats, along with some grains, vegetables and fruits. Initially The South Beach Diet rules out most heavy carb foods like pasta and potatoes, but a greater variety of foods are acceptable after a couple weeks have passed. The South Beach Diet endeavors to help dieters hit their “target weight” and then allows them to eat a little more freely. The purpose of pulling out carbs for the first couple weeks has to do with removing the body’s habitual desire for these foods.
The Phase 1 can last for two weeks. During this period, you consume three well-balanced meals every day for all the 14 days. As you may notice the South Beach Diet does not ask you to reduce or cut down on your meals. You will take normal amounts of fish, lots of vegetables, eggs, turkey, chicken, nuts, and salads. You will use 100% olive oil dressing for the salads.
The Phase 1 of South Beach Diet plan recommends that you take a snack between breakfast and lunch, and again between lunch and dinner. It is recommended to eat dessert after your dinner. You also need to drink plenty of water while drinking all the coffee or tea you want.
Phase 1 emphasizes the avoidance of any form of alcohol, including wine. Wine can be taken in Phase 2. Phase 1 recommends some foods that need to be eliminated from your dieting plan. These are baked goods, pasta, potatoes, rice, bread (yes, bread), candy, cookies, cake, sugar, and ice cream.
By putting in a little effort during the Phase 1 period, you are well on your way to achieve health and lose weight in as little as two weeks.
In Phase Two, low GI carbs including most fruits, Granary bread, wholegrain cereals and pasta and low-fat milk are reintroduced. The idea is to stay with this phase until you’ve reached your target weight.
Finally, in Phase Three you introduce an even wider variety of foods. This phase is aimed at keeping your weight steady and the diet recommends you stay on this for life.
For each phase, there are no limits on portion sizes – you simply eat enough to satisfy your appetite – and you’re encouraged to eat three meals and snacks each day.
